Final: Ole Miss 65, South Carolina 49

A huge second half for Stefan Moody. He played just 5 minutes in the first half as he went to the bench early with two fouls.

South Carolina coach Frank Martin said he “wanted to go into the locker room and kiss Andy” for not playing Moody more in the first half.

In the second half Moody had 16 points on 5-for-7 shooting, going 3-for-5 from 3.

The Rebels shot 18-for-22 from the free throw line and were plus-1 on the glass.

Kennedy says players are figuring out roles, and Moody agrees.

The Rebels had a 12-point lead late in the half, but South Carolina got some better looks in the final minutes and knocked down a couple of 3s.

Stefan Moody played less than 5 minutes before picking up his second foul and sitting the rest of the half.

Ole Miss shot just 35.7 percent but was 4-for-7 from 3, two of those by Jarvis Summers, who leads the Rebels with 12 points, though he’s only 3-for-10 from the floor.

Quality win against a Gamecock team that beat Iowa State, Clemson, and OK State. They were coming off a 4 point loss at Florida last Wednesday and now a 16 point loss to the Rebels at the Tad Pad. South Carolina had won seven in a row going into this week, but a top-10 defensive efficiency team could not lock down Ole Miss’ scorers well enough to keep the team in it.

“The biggest thing is Moody is becoming more assertive, instead of watching Jarvis,” coach Andy Kennedy said. “He’s helping Jarvis. A lot of times early in the season I thought we were ball-watching a lot … Nobody knew how aggressive they needed be. I think we’re figuring that out.”

Said Moody: “You can’t throw a bunch of different guys together and have it mesh automatically. It’s a process, going to take a little while and I think we’re figuring it out.”

LSU at the Tad Pad this Wednesday at 6 PM on the SEC Network. LSU won at Georgia last night and are 12-3. Should be an exciting game.
