Ole Miss has picked up a commitment from a big cornerback, Montrell Custis of Lovejoy High School in Hampton, Ga., the same school that produced DeMarquis Gates, a freshman linebacker this past season.
Custis is listed at 6-foot, 175 pounds by Rivals, which rates him a 3-star prospect. Scout.com has Custis rated as a four-star prospect, and the No. 28 safety in the nation.
He has at various times in the process been committed to both Kentucky, first, then Alabama.
In this video with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Custis talked about his decision to switch from Kentucky to Alabama. He spoke in glowing terms then of the Crimson Tide and though he didn’t rule out taking other visits he downplayed the possibility.
The AJC lists Cutstis among the top prospects in Georgia.
ESPN rates him the No. 34 cornerback in the nation.
Custis had promised to make a decision by “Feb. 2” adding that enjoyed his visit to Ole Miss the weekend of Jan. 23-25.
Custis of course was hosted by Gates during his visit.
“Coach (Hugh) Freeze is a great coach,” Custis said. “I feel like this program is on the rise.”
