Ole Miss 69, Texas AM 59

A nice RPI win for the Rebels, who have now won four straight. They ended a six-game win streak for the Aggies and did it with defense. Jarvis Summers (2-for-10) and LaDarius White (1-for-9) struggled to make shots, but the Rebels made sure the Aggies’ big guns struggled also.

A&M’s two leading scorers, Danuel House and Jalen Jones, were both held below 10 points. The two of them combined with point guard Alex Caruso to go 8-for-29 from the floor.

I’m looking at kenpom.com rankings this morning and after the win last night, Ole Miss has an RPI rating of 30 and Texas A&M dropped to 48.
The Rebels were never in danger of losing last night. They beat a very good Aggies team and the best part of it all: Coach AK surpassed Rick Stansberry (who is on Billy Kennedy’s staff) with the number of wins: 186 to 185. (I think those are the numbers)

Beeze, I think they were very much in danger of losing when it was a 3-point game with 8:18 left. White hit a big shot, his only shot of the game, to help push the lead back out. Ole Miss guarded hard last night, but so did A&M. It was impressive to see other players make plays when Summers and White were struggling.

Maybe so…but, I never felt like they would lose the game. The Rebels held the lead for most of the game and every time threatened they would open up the gap/lead again.
If not for Moody, they’d been in deep doodoo.
I get the feeling that these kids are learning more and more what each other’s role is and how to sustain a lead and win. Hope I’m right.

I do think there’s some growth going on. There are some tough games ahead, but they’re in a good position right now.
