Summers is off the carton and on the path

Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy declared senior point guard Jarvis Summers “off the milk carton” after Summers was 5-for-15 from the floor against Tennessee last Saturday.

That’s not a brilliant field goal percentage, but you could see more aggression from Summers in the game. The first step to making shots is taking them, and Summers had been passing them up of late.

Against the Vols he took shots within the flow of the offense. Even amid his struggles Summers has hit some big shots and made clutch plays. Kennedy hasn’t lost confidence in him, continuing to draw up plays to get him the ball, going to his right whenever possible.

Summers looked more at east against Tennessee. If he had begun to lose confidence in his shooting last Saturday could have been the start of getting back to the consistency he’s shown throughout his career.

And that would be a big lift to a team trying to play its way into the NCAA Tournament.
