Monday Morning Upate

Spanning the globe on a Monday morning …

Good to be home. I got down to Baton Rouge early and visited with my dad who is convalescing. Missed Snowmageddon completely. I didn’t miss the idea of driving in but was intrigued by the idea of eight inches of snow in Tupelo would like to have seen that.

Enough of weather, now for sports. …

The Rebels lost two of three at UCF over the weekend. They won the third game of the series to get there as the two teams split a pair on Sunday. When all is said and done I think that’s a series that will boost strength of schedule for Ole Miss. One more win and a series victory would have been big for RPI. In six games with UCF over two seasons five have been decided by one run.

None of that really matters. What does matter is Ole Miss is now 6-4 and appears to be having trouble scoring runs in bunches the way it did last year.

In other Central Florida baseball news, the Phillies lost yesterday … to Division II Tampa. Well, it was sort of the Phillies. Not the regular nine you’re likely to ever see in a regular season game, but the idea of a Division II team beating MLB guys is still unique. …

It was a big weekend for Ole Miss track and field at the SEC Indoors:

It’s getting nasty between LSU and Texas A&M and John Chavis. …

A win over Ole Miss has given LSU’s NCAA hopes a nice boost, Nola.com says. The Rebels’ NCAA hopes may rest on what they get done this week at Alabama Tuesday and at home against Vanderbilt Saturday night. …

Auburn’s pro day Tuesday will be televised by The SEC Network. Ole Miss’ pro day is Thursday. If there’s broadcast info to be had I’ll pass it along. …

Remember last winter’s debate over the possible rules change affecting tempo offense? That was before Alabama starting playing fast. Interesting take here from Jon Gruden
