Icy drive back to Oxford for Ole Miss baseball last night

Weather was not an issue for the Rebels playing down in Hattiesburg last night, but it was something they had to contend with on the ride back to Oxford.

The worst of the frozen precip was expected to arrive after midnight.

“We were worried about it to be honest,” Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco said. “We looked at the forecast before we left, and the bad stuff wasn’t coming for a few more hours. If it was bad in Jackson we’d have stopped there or in Canton. We drove in sleet the whole way. It was getting pretty bad once we got back to Oxford about 1:30. The side of the bus was all ice.”

Ole Miss is at home this weekend for three games against Stetson. The Hatters are 7-6 after a 6-3 home loss to Michigan on Tuesday.

Ole Miss managed just five hits, all singles, in last night’s 5-1 loss at Southern Miss.

“It’s not a secret we haven’t played well the last seven games. We had a great start offensively the first weekend when we looked like the team I thought we could be. Last night was different. We’re just not playing with confidence, not swinging with confidence. It was not a great effort offensively. In some other games there have been bright spots in the lineup. Last night we were not good as a whole. That was disappointing.”
