Video Blog: Rebels lose SEC opener to No. 4 LSU

By John Davis, Oxford Citizen

BATON ROUGE, La. β€” Ole Miss was better on offense, but a few mistakes in the field cost the Rebels a chance of upsetting the No. 4 LSU Tigers Friday night.

Ole Miss starter Christian Trent lost his first game as a starter despite logging seven innings of work. He was efficient overall with just 103 pitches thrown. He was unable to get out of the fourth inning without giving up a run, and the Tigers’ Conner Hale made him pay for one pitch not placed just right with a two-run double.

LSU (17-1 overall) never trailed, jumping out to a 4-0 lead. Ole Miss (9-8) got as close as two runs in the top of the fifth, but never could get any closer. JB Woodman had a two-run home run in the loss. Kyle Watson led the Rebels with three hits overall, and reached base four times. He also tied Woodman with two RBIs.

Here is Trent and Watson following the loss. Game 2 of the three-game series with the Tigers is set for Saturday at 7. The contest can be seen on the SEC Network.
