Monday Morning Update

Spanning the globe on a Monday morning …

For many the NIT, be it men’s or women’s, is a disappointment, a statement that the program fell short of goals.

That’s not the way it is for Ole Miss women’s basketball right now, and a former Ole Miss player and coach is taking notice.

I know Matt Insell had higher hopes for this season after a fast start to SEC play. A seven-game skid kind of re-wrote the script. There were a lot of ranked teams in that stretch, a difficult time for a young team, but there were some head-scratching losses too.

I thought that seven-game skid might be too much to recover from, but Insell has the Rebels playing strong right now in the WNIT. After a 63-48 win over Georgia Tech it’s on to the third round against Middle Tennessee — and Insell’s father — which defeated Ole Miss 71-65 in Oxford on Nov. 23.
