Buchanan, Kincade talk QB competition

This is a big week for the quarterback competition at Ole Miss.

Hugh Freeze says he and his staff are charting every throw and plan to take a long hard look at the data after Saturday’s scrimmage.

Freeze is hopeful he can have a good, physical scrimmage to make a better of evaluation of his quarterbacks. That remains to be seen given the status of the offensive line.

Chad Kelly has gotten a lot of attention in this race for reasons both on and off the field.

Freeze says the competition is close and that he’s seen good and bad from all of the participants.

Here are two of them.

Ryan Buchanan and DeVante Kincade have the advantage of having been in the system for two years.

Learning the system is something that Kelly is trying to work his way through right now. At times he’s uncertain and that causes him to play slower, Freeze says.

Laquon Treadwell had some interesting comments on Kelly yesterday when he said, “He’ll take some chances. He’ll throw it out there and let you run under it.”

Comments like that are going to be all you have to go on for a while in trying to get an idea of how spring practice is going for Chad Kelly.
