Kiper evaluates Golson, Prewitt

The NFL draft is coming up April 30-May 2.

Interesting commentary here from ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. on Ole Miss’ Senquez Golson and Cody Prewitt from a conference call a few minutes ago.

He’s high on Golson, uncertain on Prewitt.

Kiper on Golson: “You take playmakers, natural football players. They go out and find a way to impact a football game. As many interceptions as Golson had you’re not just in the right place at the right time. He’s got ball skills and ability, and in this league they don’t care about your size any more. Back in ’95 it would have mattered. It doesn’t matter now. He runs well. He can be a slot corner, a nickel corner or match up effectively with the quick guys. I think he’s solidly in the third round.”

Kiper on Prewitt: “Cody Prewitt is tougher to evaluate when you look at his speed, how he plays on the field, will he give you that cover range that you want? There are mixed opinions on him with a lot of people. I think he’s in the fourth to sixth round, possibly the seventh round. He’s in a mix of guys that some think are OK, and some are not as high on. I’d say he goes in the fifth or sixth round.”
