Freeze gives practice update

Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze met with us before practice today.

He talked about the progress of Jeremy Liggins at tackle where the one-time state champion quarterback continues to impress with his footwork and seems to be picking things up.

It’s hard to imagine Liggins getting a lot of reps when Laremy Tunsil is healthy, but he will help, and there will be a time — like next season in all likelihood — when Tunsil won’t be around.

Good stuff too on Derrick Jones. I wrote about him earlier in the week. For the second time in Jones’ career Freeze labeled him a “surprise” player. Freeze really believes Jones, if he continues to progress, can help at wide receiver.

I do too. Sounds like the biggest thing Jones needs to do right now is catch the deep ball.

“He wins a lot of routes,” Freeze said.

The video includes commentary on the secondary too. Freeze likes what he’s seeing from some young players at safety, particularly C.J. Hampton.
