Thursday Morning Update

Spanning the globe on a Thursday morning …

Good stuff here from on the use of pitchers. The writer, Eric Sorensen, attended a discussion on the subject that included several notable figures, among them Tom House, a name you may recall for his work with Bo Wallace last off-season.

That’s just a nugget I threw out there free of charge and not one you’ll find in Sorensen’s piece.

Regardless, there’s some really interesting info here, like House’s opinion on travel baseball for young players, the difference between throwing and pitching and how much is acceptable. Be sure to scroll down to the “Keith Law question” and see what orthopedic surgeon Dr. Seth Gamradt has to say about college pitchers coming back on short rest during regionals and super regionals.

I came across this piece late Wednesday as it was re-tweetetd by Mike Bianco. … is ranking all of the Power Five conference football coaches. It released the 26-66 grouping yesterday, and Hugh Freeze came in at No. 31. It’s quite an interesting group right around him.

Speaking of college football, looks like more bowl games are on the way. And can you guess who leads the way in percentage of bowl ties for its conference members? It’s not who you think. …

Did you prank or get pranked on April Fools’ Day? I don’t know how many Freeze successfully pulled off, but it sounds like the women in his life got him good:

USA Today lists the salaries for the basketball coaches who made this season’s NCAA tournament. Andy Kennedy is No. 30. Some will surprise you. Some private schools elected not to participate.

Elsewhere …

Alabama whiffed on Gregg Marshall and issued a statement. Different:

Marshall will make $3.3 million a year to stay at Wichita State. Wichita State! …

Speaking of Alabama, the woman who accused now former Crimson Tide DL Jonathan Taylor of assault has recanted her story and has been arrested for false reporting to law enforcement. …
