Ole Miss vs. Southern Miss

The Rebels will try to distance themselves from a disappointing weekend against Tennessee when they take on Southern Miss tonight at Trustmark Park in Pear. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.

One bright spot for Ole Miss in the last two games against the Vols was freshman right-hander Will Stokes. He didn’t start fast, but Stokes settled in and kept the game manageable.

In a season-long 5 2-3 innings have gave up four runs, but only two were earned. You can win with those numbers of other facets of the team are functioning.

From the Mother Ship, our take on Stokes’ efforts to bring some stability to the No. 3 starter role. Ole Miss is now 0-4 in SEC Game 3s.

Evan Anderson (1-3, 6.43) will start for the Rebels tonight. The sophomore left-hander went five innings and gave up three runs, all earned, on three hits with three walks when Southern Miss beat Ole Miss 5-1 in Hattiesburg on March 4.

A meager five hits by the Rebels were still enough to out-hit the Golden Eagles then. Southern Miss, however, committed no errors, while the Rebels committed two.

Ole Miss struggled to get anything done against USM right-hander Cord Cockrell (2-0, 3.38) who will pitch again tonight. Cockrell went seven innings and allowed one earned run, five hits and five strikeouts.
