Ole Miss’ Brown says Scott was his step-father

Update 12:24 p.m.

The school just released a statement from Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze clarifying some points about Fadol Brown’s relationship with Walter Scott:

“Walter Scott was in a relationship with the mother of Fadol’s longtime girlfriend and served as a father figure to Fadol for a number of years. Obviously this is a very emotional and difficult time for all parties involved, and our thoughts are with Fadol and his loved ones after this tragic event.”

For the second-straight day the Ole Miss athletics family is dealing with loss of life.

Fadol Brown, a member of the football team, wrote on Twitter Tuesday night that Walter Scott, who was shot and killed by a South Carolina police officer, was his stepfather.

The tweet has since been removed from Brown’s page.

Brown is a native of Charleston, S.C. He played one season at Florida International before transferring to Ole Miss and sitting out the 2013 season.

A video of the incident surfaced Tuesday. A North Charleston police officer has been arrested and charged with murder.

The Ole Miss athletics family on Tuesday mourned the death of former basketball assistant coach Torrey Ward in a plane crash.

Don’t see why the “tweet” had to come down…that was an honest, from the heart, response…didn’t read anything that I’m offended by.
