Here’s the Will Not Play List:
Hugh Freeze told us earlier this week that he felt like his team has improved its run game. That’s quite an accomplishment given how many offensive linemen missed some or all of spring drills with various ailments and considering how different and unproven the running back picture is.
There’s been a lot of focus on the quarterback competition, but whoever is the starter — I can’t believe it won’t be Chad Kelly — will be better if the run game is functional. It really wasn’t consistent a year ago.
Another accomplishment this spring has been quality reps and attention for young guys who will provide depth. That’s the mixed blessing of spring-time injuries.
Freeze talked about that depth earlier this week also. Building depth has been an on-going story line since he was hired. Obviously there are players you can’t afford to lose, and the Rebels lost them last year for stretches when they didn’t have Laquon Treadwell or Laremy Tunsil. But man to man Freeze likes his depth.
