Weathersby to start tonight against MSU

Scott Weathersby has been the Rebels’ most dependable reliever.

Tonight he’ll get a chance to see if he can be a dependable starter too.

Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco announced earlier this morning that Weathersby will start against Mississippi State at Trustmark Park in Pearl.

The right-hander from Oak Grove, a fifth-year senior, is 2-1 with a 2.16 ERA over 33 1-3 innings.

Opponents are hitting just .158 against him.

He’s made 47 career appearances, but tonight will be his first start. Depending on how it goes Weathersby could find himself in the mix to start the third game of this weekend’s series at Missouri.

Bianco said after the Rebels’ 13-4 loss to Alabama that he would explore his options for a Game 3 starter.
