Cloyd says consistency has been key to his recent hot streak

Ole Miss had 11 runs and 15 hits in a dominating win over Mississippi State in the Governor’s Cup.

Connor Cloyd, who has settled into the leadoff spot in a big way, leads the Rebels with a .425 batting average.

He says the Governor’s Cup win gives the Rebels confidence, but not as much as you might expect.

“It gives us a lot of confidence. Our offense was working that day. When our offense gets hits it’s contagious. We can put that up against anybody in the league. The whole team was pretty hyped up for that win, and just knowing that we are coming off a win against our rivals, it’s a good feeling coming into the series,” he said.

Here’s Cloyd:

Confidence is a great thing, but the Rebels haven’t often shown the firepower they did against MSU on a neutral field.

Ole Miss was hitting below .250 collectively and was last in the SEC statistics a few weeks ago.

They’ve hit better lately, now at .264, and Cloyd has been a big part of that resurgence.
