Mike Bianco and John Cohen have a fascinating personal rivalry going that extends far beyond their time as head coaches of Mississippi’s two SEC schools.

They first opposed one another as key players for their schools, Cohen at Mississippi State and Bianco at LSU, back in the late 80s when both programs were really good.

Brad Locke and I took a look back in 2009. It’s a great read. Here’s the link.

As the series gets under way tonight at Swayze Field at the terrible start time of 7:30 Cohen has a record of 25-24 against Bianco when the two have met as head coaches. That goes back to their time in the Southland Conference when Cohen was at Northwestern (La.) State, and Bianco was at McNeese State.

In fact, Bianco lost five times to Cohen when they were rookie head coaches. More on that in the story.

As Ole Miss and MSU coaches, Bianco leads against Cohen 14-11, this year’s 11-1 win in the Governor’s Cup being the current difference.
