Monday Morning Update

Spanning the globe on a Monday morning …

For his next trick Josh McCoy will tell you will be the Republican presidential nominee. He posted this gem Saturday morning:

A few more thoughts on that Ole Miss-MSU baseball series.

It was big to see Errol Robinson’s success at the plate. He needs to continue that especially without Connor Cloyd out for an indefinite period of time, maybe the rest of the season. There’s no clear word on the seriousness of Cloyd’s strained oblique, but sometimes Mike Bianco’s “day to day” diagnosis tend to last a while. Scott Bittle comes to mind.

Robinson was a guy who hit .294 last year as a freshman. He hadn’t been exactly terrible this year but he was about 30 points down from that going into the MSU series.

When I asked him about it you could tell his lack of production this season has weighed on him. Bianco downplayed it, but Robinson was eager to talk about it. That was after his two RBI doubles in Game 1. He finished strong in Games 2 and 3 and had a nice series.

Cloyd is not expected to play Tuesday at Arkansas State, and his status for the remainder of the season is uncertain.

The Arkansas State game remains huge even though Ole Miss is four games over .500 right now. If the Rebels beat Arkansas State the worst they could be going to Hoover is two games over .500 and with 14 SEC wins. I think that gets them in the NCAAs. If they win in Jonesboro I think they’re playing for seeding. If they lose in Jonesboro then scenarios exist that could leave them .500 or less leaving the SEC tournament. If that happens, there’s no NCAA bid. It’s also a big RPI drag if they lose to ASU.

Personally, I think Bianco will drive home that message and that they’ll win Tuesday. I think they’ll get at least one game from the Aggies. We’ll see. …

Ole Miss AD Ross Bjork talks to athletes prior to graduation ceremonies Saturday:

Here’s what Texas A&M coach Rob Childress had to say about his Aggies after they lost two at home to struggling South Carolina. The Aggies visit Ole Miss this weekend. In A&M’s first two seasons in the SEC, each has won the series at the other’s place. Those were the 13 and 14 seasons and come right after the Rebels defeated A&M in a second-round winner’s bracket matchup in the 2012 College Station Regional. …

Knoxville News-Sentinel columnist John Adams says Tennessee AD John Hart through his time with the school should have a deeper understanding of the importance of women’s athletics, namely basketball, and that’s it’s bad business to go through with killing the women’s logo. …
