Today’s first game stands as the final of the series which ends tied at 1. Game 3 has been cancelled due to weather concerns.
That move guarantees that Ole Miss finishes with not only a winning overall record (30-25) which was a story line for most of the season, but also a winning SEC record (15-14). The Rebels are the No. 6 seed in next week’s SEC tournament and will play Tuesday at 9:30 against Alabama.
The Rebels had 12 hits today but no massive base-clearing hits. In fact, the three-run second when they took the lead for good included three infield hits and a bases-loaded walk.
Here’s Mike Bianco:
Brady Bramlett had four of his seven strikeouts over the first two innings when the Aggies posted single runs. Bianco shies away from the word “mistake” here, but at least one of them was. The Aggies’ home run by first baseman Hunter Melton was a belt-high fastball. Nobody’s perfect, however, and Bramlett’s outing was far better than his two previous ones when he gave up 15 earned runs over a combined 10 1-3 innings.
Great defense today from a number of sources, Errol Robinson and Colby Bortles with line drive stabs, and Cameron Dishon robbing a hit with a sliding catch in right.
Robinson was 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs, one of three players with two hits. He had a key baserunning play in the second when he extended the inning and allowed a run to score. He beat the throw to second on a routine ground ball.
