Freeze’s Media Days reasoning

Hugh Freeze has received some criticism, including from me, for not bring Robert Nkemdiche and/or Laquon Treadwell to Media Days.

Not very long from now CJ Johnson, who was here last year, Mike Hilton and Evan Engram will represent Ole Miss. All are worthy and will do fine in this role.

Here’s what Freeze had to say about why he went with those three.

“If you were walking in my shoes, to me, you earn the right of great leadership. Mike Hilton and Evan Engram, when you look at the totality … For me it’s not just about the player and what he does on the field. Obviously we’re excited about Laquon and Robert, Laremy and Tony Conner and those guys. Over the course of a three-year period, the leadership that’s been provided to our team by Evan and Mike Hilton, our Chucky Mullins award winner …

“I know what media want. You guys want a story. For us as coaches, you earn that right. The good thing about our program is that it was a difficult decision. You had kids that I felt like, ‘Man, that kid could do it.” We spent a lot of time with coaches, a week really, thinking about who would be the ones. I wish I could have brought more, but Evan and Mike, when you look at the totality of everything they’ve done from the academic side, social side, to leading our team, they’re quite deserving.”
