Vacation is over. I’ll be back breaking bricks today.
Looks like some big recruiting news last week in the commitment of Brentwood, Tenn., offensive lineman Bryce Mathews.
He’s a Rivals 250 player, a four-star recruit, the No. 189 player in the nation and the No. 3 player in Tennessee.
As life without Laremy Tunsil looms next season it’s a huge pick-up, and it’s interesting to watch the collection of offensive line talent building with Rod Taylor last year, Javon Patterson this year and now Mathews, apparently, to come in 2016.
There are interesting project players in the current class of freshmen too in Alex Givens and Michael Howard.
Hugh Freeze has always said it takes time to build the offensive line. Sometimes time is a luxury you just don’t have.
The Rebels have NFL talent on the roster at a number of positions right now, and if they can run the ball more consistently than they did last year they’ll take a lot of pressure off whoever is the quarterback.
Tunsil is one of those NFL caliber names, and even with him it was an average offensive line last year.
They’ve got the chance to be better this season for several reasons: five returning starters, better conditioning for senior Aaron Morris, solid young talent that is expected to provide better depth.
Offensive line is a key area to keep an eye on.
