Hugh Freeze and his staff stayed as hot as the weather in July on the recruiting trail Tuesday morning, picking up another standout player from the state of Texas.
Safety Jaylon Jones (5-foot-11, 182 pounds) of Allen, Texas verbally committed to the Rebels, picking Freeze over staying close to home and playing for Kevin Sumlin and Texas A&M.
Jones made his choice public via Twitter, saying “I’ll be joining Coach Freeze and the University of Mississippi #HottyToddy
Jones is the 18th overall pledge for the 2016 signing class, and the fifth in less than two weeks for the Rebels. Ole Miss’ class has been ranked as high as No. 2 by the national recruiting services and has remained in the top 10. Because Jones is rated as a four-star player, that ranking could improve.
Jones is a teammate of five-star offensive lineman Greg Little, who recently de-committed from Texas A&M.
Little has visited both Ole Miss and Alabama.
ESPN describes Little’s recruitment as wide open.

I'll be joining Coach Freeze and The University of Mississippi! #HottyToddy
There seems to be a trend in moving away from recruits saying “The University of Ole Miss.” I wonder if that’s been a point of discussion from Ole Miss coaches when they expect a player to commit. …
The Jones commitment lifts Ole Miss to No. 5 in the Rivals class rankings.
