Wednesday Morning Update

Spanning the globe on a Wednesday morning …

Ole Miss players report today.

It’s an old term that implies travel to Oxford as though players haven’t been there all summer going through voluntary (That’s what they call them) workouts.

Football is year-round with the regular season, recruiting season, spring ball and the law-and-order season. It all brings us back to today when players “check in” and come under the care of their coaches.

So technically what players are doing today is signing in. Hugh Freeze and players will participate in the on-campus “media day” tomorrow.

I’ll have more player to watch here later today.

Elsewhere …

If you’d like to yell “overrated” at Auburn early in 2015 there is some science to back you up.

A day after Baton Rouge native Dylan Moses, a speedy linebacker considered by some the No. 1 prospect in the 2017 class, decommitted from LSU he is making news on Twitter.

And it doesn’t stop there.

And what, exactly, should be the parents’ role in recruiting. …

Media reports say Jadeveon Clowney’s father is in jail on an attempted murder charge after shots were fired outside a bar in Rock Hill, S.C. …

If Kentucky coach Mark Stoops says his players are bigger, stronger and faster you can check him right here and hold him accountable. …

Former Ole Miss coach Tommy Tuberville has the metaphor machine cranked and running. I’m pretty familiar with the second. The first one should probably read “stack the bats,” calling for an end to baseball, which may not be a hard sell in Cincinnati with the Reds 19 games back:

Former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, himself trying to climb the ladder with the Kansas City Chiefs, recalls what it was like to go through a quarterback competition in Athens and offers a little insight into this year’s three candidates there.

Speaking of that Georgia QB race, running back Nick Chubb summed it up pretty well with the Bulldogs’ likely approach this season:
