A year in the making

Film study is one of the new habits that has helped make C.J. Hampton a lot more confident going into his sophomore season.

A four-star signee from Meridian a year ago, Hampton spent his rookie year learning behind free safety Cody Prewitt. Now he says he knows all the safety positions and is eager to make that step that many players make going from Year 1 to Year 2.

While defensive coordinator Dave Wommack talks about depth, Hampton is one of the most intriguing players to watch.

He was the No. 15 safety in the country according to Rivals. He was an early commitment but still generated some late recruiting-season buzz within the Class of 14 because Ole Miss had to hold off a late push from Alabama to keep him.
