Three Take-Aways from Ole Miss’ 37-24 loss to Memphis …
Poor Tackling: I can’t remember when I’ve seen it worse. Memphis backs and receivers broke tackles and constantly finished plays going forward. The gang-tackling the Ole Miss defense has been known for was virtually non-existent. One bright spot was Breeland Speaks. After the Robert Nkemdiche injury Speaks finished with six tackles and two tackles for loss.
Poor Coverage: Paxton Lynch is a great quarterback, and his receivers were consistently open on deep out routes. Ole Miss players were too far away to affect the play.
Third downs: Terrible on both sides. When you consider that many of those out routes came on third down it’s easy to see why Memphis was 12-for-20 in moving the chains on that critical down.
Heart: Ole Miss safety said Memphis had it and Ole Miss didn’t. Hard to disagree.
