A few more Media Monday notes

A couple of notebook items that didn’t make it into the video …

Backup quarterback DeVante Kincade received a call early this morning telling him that his brother had died.

Kincade wrote about his loss and pain on Twitter but did not share any specifics.

“Our condolences go out to DeVante Kincade and his family on the loss of his brother. That’s a terrible phone call to get this morning. We hurt for him as he is dealing with that,” Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said at his press conference. …

Also, Tony Conner and C.J. Johnson each had surgery for a torn meniscus, Conner first, but it looks like Johnson could possibly play this week against Texas A&M. “We are going to look at C.J. He ran yesterday indoor. We haven’t seen him practice yet, and today is academic day, so we will give him a look tomorrow. We will see how he has progressed,” Freeze said. No word on if or when Conner might return, but Freeze was rather pessimistic last week when discussing Conner’s rehab. …

In other injury news Robert Conyers is done after tearing the ACL in his good knee, not the sprained one that’s kept him out of a couple of one game and had him playing hurt in others.

There’s a lengthy list of concussion protocol guys starting with Robert Nkemdiche but extending to Trae Elston, Tayler Polk and Will Gleeson. You never know exactly how those things are going to work out, but D.J. Jones had a concussion last week, went through the series of tests, and was released to play. …
