Hugh Freeze didn’t take out ads or build a website to announce that was taking a lesser role in play-calling. He has quietly given up a lot of the responsibilities and seems pleased with the early results.

Freeze said Dan Werner called 80 percent of the plays at Auburn. It’s a very structured approach to calling plays which still involves Freeze and probably involves him more than he’s letting on. Best I can understand it when one offensive series is complete Freeze tells Werner and Matt Luke on the offensive headsets the “package” that he prefers for the next offensive series based on flow of the game. They then have a group of plays within the package to choose from and Werner makes the call.

Wide receiver Laquon Treadwell says he can see subtle differences with Werner calling most plays rather than Freeze. …

From the notebook, a lot of folks are genuinely excited about the return of Huskie Tony Conner this week. His secondary teammate Trae Elston certainly is. …
