A good read from Pro Football Focus with some off-the-beaten path college football awards. 

The same group picks an All-SEC team with Brandon Allen as its top quarterback. Interesting take on some names you didn’t hear as much from the coaches.

While Charles Barkley is not, many Auburn fans are pumped up about the Birmingham Bowl. Many Ole Miss fans would no doubt like to see Memphis knock off another SEC team. The whole misery and company and that sort of thing. Even though Florida was not as highly regarded as it would become the Memphis loss was considered the low point of the Ole Miss season. I would agree with that not because Memphis was not capable of winning the game but because Ole Miss wasn’t playing well at that time. Anyway, that game and others have helped Paxton Lynch make his case to be the first player taken in the draft.

Vanderbilt, off to a fast start and in the top 25 early this basketball season, will be without a key player for a while.

Speaking of basketball, road wins carry more weight in the RPI, and Ole Miss has a chance to pick up another one Saturday at Southeast Missouri. It’s been a struggle for new SEMO coach Rick Ray, the former Mississippi State coach. SEMO is 0-8 and searching for an identity on defense. Apparently, it hung with Memphis for a while, so it wouldn’t do an improving Ole Miss team to let up. …

And the Chioptle food illness story in Boston has impacted college basketball as BC drops a game after a number of team members were affected. …
