Five Take-Aways from a 99-80 win over La. Tech

Kennedy’s 200th: It was the 200th win at Ole Miss for coach Andy Kennedy. He’s now 200-116 in his 10th season in Oxford.

Here’s Kennedy:

Good Shooting: Kennedy has lamented his team’s shooting struggles this season, but there were shots falling from all over tonight, and the Rebels didn’t let up. They were 12-for-26 from 3-point range. Stefan Moody hit four of his first five behind the arc and finished 4-for-9. Rasheed Brooks was 8-for-10 from the floor, 4-for-5 from the arc. Tomas Gielo was 3-for-8 from the arc.

Moody finished with 29 points, Brooks with 20, Gielo with 13. Marcanvis Hymon got it done in the paint going 6-for-6 and finishing with 14 points.

Strong on the glass: The Rebels were plus-5 against a very athletic team. Sebastian Saiz was quiet on offense, but it wasn’t his kind of game, really. The Rebels were hitting from the outside and creating shots off the dribble. It wasn’t about throwing it inside when Saiz was posting up. He took only two shots, hit both, and finished with six points and 15 rebounds.

Better defense later: Tech shot 50 percent in the first half. Ole Miss increased its defensive intensity in the second and held Tecfh to 36.7 percent shooting then.

Almost a hundred: The Rebels had a chance for a hundred in the final seconds. JT Escobar needed to make both free throws but missed the second. The Rebels are at Memphis Friday.
