Martin says Gamecocks face tall task in containing Moody

Ole Miss will try to snap a two-game losing streak Tuesday night at 6 against South Carolina at the Pavilion at Ole Miss.

The Rebels (12-5, 2-3 SEC) are coming off losses to LSU and Florida, their first back-to-back losses this season.

South Carolina coach Frank Martin says slowing down Stefan Moody will be a big challenge for the Gamecocks.

“It’s impossible to keep him out of the paint. His ability to make tough shots is second to none. He’s grown tremendously as a point guard from early in the year to now. It’s an unbelievable challenge. Everyone has tried, and he still gets 25 every single night. For a guy his size to shoot the amount of free throws he shoots is extremely impressive.”

It’s not quite 25 a night, but it’s not far off that. Moody leads the SEC in scoring at 24.3 points a game. He’s averaging 25.6 in conference play.

Moody has scored at least 20 points in 12-straight games. If he scores 20 against Martin and the Gamecocks tomorrow night it will match the streak of 13 20-point games that former Ole Miss star Gerald Glass had in 1989.

Moody has at least one 3-pointer in 30-straight games, the fourth-longest streak in school history.
