OXFORD – Jaylon Jones has long been committed to Ole Miss.
Leaving town today after the last official visit weekend before Signing Day he said he wants to make the top uncommitted recruits make the leap with him.
“We’re working on A.J. Brown, Nigel Knott, one of the big ends, Terrell Hall, I got to be cool with him. We tried to show them everything. We really did help recruit them.”
Starkville’s Brown, the No. 5-rated wide receiver according to 247Sports, was in town this weekend along with Knott, of Madison Central, the No. 7-rated cornerback and Washington, D.C., native Terrell Hall, the No. 6 defensive end.
Knott says he’ll announce a decision Monday.
Jones says Hall played things close to the vest this weekend.
“He was just quiet. We couldn’t really tell if that was because he was liking it,” Jones said.
Jones is a four-star prospect in 247’s composite ratings, the No. 19 cornerback.
He said he feels a special closeness among this class of recruits, singling out Manvel, Texas safety Deontay Anderson and Brown along with current commits Greg Little, his Allen, Texas teammate, and QB Shea Patterson.
“This class is so strong. We all met at camps, and we have a really good bond. I met Shea at The Opening. Me and him are already like brothers. A.J. Brown, I’m real tight with him. Some athletes think they’re too good or something. We’re good at welcoming people. We’re just all tight. We all want to play with each other.”
Jones says there’s no chance that Little, the No. 3-rated prospect and No. 1 offensive tackle, doesn’t sign with Ole Miss.
“Greg is sealed. We got him 100 percent sealed. He loved it. I’m still in his ear, no matter what, but Greg loved it.”
