OXFORD – Ole Miss and Baylor have reached a verbal agreement to play at Houston’s NRG Stadium to open the 2020 season the school has confirmed.

Ole Miss athletics director Ross Bjork told the Daily Journal in January that he was in talks with Baylor and that he hoped to be able to finalize the deal and make an announcement soon.

Neutral-site games are one avenue Power Five conference AD’s are taking to comply with scheduling mandates handed down by many leagues including the SEC and Big 12.

Ole Miss will open the 2016 season against Florida State in Orlando on Sept. 5, the evening of Labor Day. Kickoff is 7 p.m., and the game will be televised by ESPN.

Ole Miss and Baylor both finished with 10-3 records this season and would have met in the Sugar Bowl had the Bears not been upset by Texas on the final weekend of the regular season.

Ole Miss has already scheduled future non-conference Power Five series with California, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest.
