Final: Ole Miss 9, Florida International 2

A solid all-around performance on opening day. Ten hits total, two each from veterans Errol Robinson and J.B. Woodman.

The big news, though, was Tate Blackman. We’d been told he was swinging well, and Blackman, a top 50 recruit who struggled last year as a freshman, doubled, homered and drove in two runs.

Here’s Mike Bianco with the pleasant background melody of the power blowers:

Brady Bramlett, who missed all of fall practice, was strong but was also on a pitch count, and FIU ran that up there with a lot of foul balls. Bramlett left after five innings of one-hit, shutout ball.

We don’t know how many pitches he threw, because it appears that’s been omitted from this season’s stats. We may have to FOI that.

Three other pitchers also saw action, and juco transfer left David Parkinson was solid with 2 2-3 innings of hitless, scoreless relief.

Game 2 is tomorrow at 1:30.
