Rebels, Golden Eagles in Game 2 of series tonight

Now Southern Miss comes into tonight’s game having won nine of the last 10 in the series.
Ole Miss hasn’t swept the series since 2010 when it won the neutral site game 11-6 in late March then won the second game 7-2 in Oxford in late April.

The two teams last met in NCAA tournament play in 2007 with Ole Miss winning 4-0. Lance Lynn got the win for Ole Miss that day.

Southern Miss comes into tonight’s game at 25-8 after sweeping Middle Tennessee State in Hattiesburg. The Golden Eagles rank 12th nationally with a .322 team batting average and rank sixth with 40 home runs.

Ole Miss will face a different starting pitcher than it did last week in Pearl. The Golden Eagles will go with freshman left-hander Stevie Powers, who is 0-0 with a 2.51 earned run average in 14 1-3 innings. Powers will be making his eighth appearance and third start.

Ole Miss will again go with freshman right-hander James McArthur, who has pitched better of late and is 4-0 with a 4.28 ERA. He threw six scoreless innings against the Eagles last week.
