Former Itawamba AHS and Mississippi State golf standout Ally McDonald just recorded her third second-place finish on the 2016 LPGA Symetra Tour, and received a berth to play in the LPGA major Evian Championship in France in September.

McDonald has aspirations of reaching the LPGA Tour very soon.
That could very well become a reality before long, as McDonald continues to blaze a trail in the Symetra Tour — which is similar to the Triple-A level in minor league baseball.
The Symetra Tour, formerly known as the “LPGA Futures Tour,” gives promotion to the LPGA Tour to golfers who either finish in the top ten positions at the end of the season, or win three events.
McDonald currently sits as the third-ranked golfer in the tour and is number two in earnings, so far this season.
Fresh off of a second-place finish at the Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic in Rochester, New York last week (in which McDonald rallied and shot a tournament record 64 on the final day to finish just one stroke shy of winner Clariss Guce), McDonald followed up with another impressive second-place finish at the weather-shortened FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship in Battle Creek, Michigan this past Sunday.
McDonald finished six strokes behind winner Laura Gonzalez Escallon, who shot a course-record 64 on Saturday, to follow up a 65 on Friday.
McDonald has finished in second place three times, and inside the top 10 five times in the 12 total tournaments this season.
The former three-time collegiate All-American also qualified for and receives an all-expense paid exemption into the Evian Championship at the Evian Resort Golf Club in Evian-les-Bains, Haute-Savoie, France with the second-place finish at the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship in Battle Creek.
The Evian is an LPGA Tour major event that will take place in September and has the second-richest purse size of any LPGA event, with $3.25 million in total winnings, in which the winner’s share is just shy of $490k.
The next stop on the Symetra Tour is the inaugral Kansas City Championship in Kansas City, Missouri, from July 29-31.
McDonald will look to remain in the thick of things with good performances in the Evian, as well as the remainder of the Symetra Tour schedule, which rounds up on October 16 at the Symetra Tour Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida.
