FULTON – The Itawamba AHS Lady Indian softball team managed to pick up one win out of two tries in a two-game homestand last week, knocking off the New Site Lady Royals 11-0 before falling to the North Pontotoc Lady Vikings 8-6, in a nailbiter.

After retiring the Lady Royals in order to start the contest on Monday night, the Lady Indians used an eight-run top of the first inning to jump out to a commanding lead.

Brittany Sullivan singled to left before Lilli Moore walked, to start things off for IAHS.

Brianna Moore then stroked a double down the left field line to score both Sullivan and Moore to give the Lady Indians a quick 2-0 lead.

Tierra Hood then drew a walk in front of a Cassidy Wood single, before Maddie Johnson roped a double to center to score them both, almost in deja vu-like fashion.

Kaylee Owens walked before a pair of singles by Maggie Collum and Lexi Green scored Johnson.

Sullivan would hit a sac fly to score Owens and Moore reached on an error to score Collum before the Lady Indians would be finished.

While keeping the Lady Royals quiet, IAHS scored two more runs in the bottom of the third and tacked on another, for insurance, in the bottom of the fourth to cruise to an 11-0 five-inning mercy-rule win.

On Thursday, the Lady Indians dropped a back-and-forth contest with North Pontotoc, in which they couldn’t answer the Lady Vikings’ two-run seventh inning.

The Lady Vikings scored two in the top of the seventh to break a 6-6 tie, and managed to get IAHS in order in the bottom half of the inning to clinch the game.

The Lady Indians stand at 3-4 overall, before taking trips to Booneville on Tuesday and red-hot in-county rival Mantachie, who stand at 13-0, on Thursday.
