TUPELO – It looks like the pig really will be the star of the 2014 Don’t Be Cruel BBQ Duel in downtown Tupelo.

City officials, members of the Link Centre board of directors, Convention and Visitors Bureau members and barbecue competition sponsors gathered at noon Tuesday at City Hall to unveil the logo and details of next year’s event.

“Rub Me Tender, Rub Me True” is the slogan for the March 14-15 competition at Fairpark. The poster, designed by The Gibens Creative Group, features a Boudoir-style blue-eyed, ruby-lipped voluptuous pig giving a come-hither look.

“Teams and judges from across the country have already begun registering to ensure that they get to be part of this premier event,” said Bev Crossen, event organizer. “We want people to come down, smell the smoke and have a good time.”

This will be the fourth year for the competition. The first year, the event was held at the Link Centre, but it moved to Fairpark two years ago.

“Last year, we figured we drew 10,000 people and 100 teams from all over the country to the KCBS-sanctioned competition,” Crossen said, referring to the Kansas City Barbecue Society.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.tupelobbqduel.com.
