TUPELO – Trace Bundy plays the guitar, but he doesn’t play it the way you’d expect.
His fans have nicknamed him the “Acoustic Ninja” for his unique right and left side acoustic techniques, which he taught himself. He’s scored millions of views on YouTube with his acoustic covers of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself,” which medleys into
“Kashmir” by Led Zeppelin, or his many originals.
A former engineering professor, the Colorado native has been a professional musician for 10 years now, and next week he’ll bring his one-of-a-kind show to Tupelo.
“That’s definitely the cool thing about this, is getting to travel. I’ve been to 23 different countries and all over the U.S., and all the places have different musical cultures,” Bundy said in a phone interview with the Daily Journal. “When I was in Africa, they liked more of my percussive stuff, and in Japan they liked the slow, melodic stuff.”
Bundy is currently on the road promoting his latest album, a two-disc set called “Elephant King.” Most of the songs in his live set feature tracks from that album, but he’s open to suggestions.
“If people have a request, they can email me in advance,” he said, and fans can tweet him at @TraceBundy.
One song that’s definitely on his set list for Tupelo, he said, is “Joy & Sorrow,” a song he plays on two different guitars.
“It’s probably one of my favorites to play,” he said.
Bundy invites all music fans to check out his show.
“No matter what kind of music you like, I guarantee it’ll be a super fun night,” he said. “It’ll be a memorable, interactive and fun experience for everyone.”
