This past Thursday we celebrated Album Club’s one-year anniversary/birthday, and we had a blast.
We discussed “Diamond Dogs” by David Bowie, and Album Clubber Spencer Pleasants showed off his Bowie-esque outfit and multitude of books and info based on the legend. Not only did we listen and discuss music, but we also learned a little something.
At the end of the meeting, we played my old MTV trivia game from the late 90s.
This next month’s record is the latest by The Kills, “Blood Pressures.”
My friend (and fellow Album Clubber) Crissy and I saw The Kills a few years ago when they opened for The Raconteurs in Memphis.
If you’ve never heard this duo, you’re in for a treat. They’ve got this gritty rock-blues groove that is undeniable. Singer Alison Mosshart has an incredibly powerful voice and presence.
Rolling Stone gave “Blood Pressures” four out of five stars. You can read the review here.
We’ll meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at the Link Centre.
Mark your calendars to be there. It’s three Album Clubbers’ birthdays in May, so we’ll have more cake, I’m sure.
See ya there!
