TUPELO – It isn’t New Year’s Eve just yet, but you can still party.
Tupelo-based band 2 Drink Minimum is hosting an Almost New Year’s party, complete with music, food and drinks – and it’s all for a good cause.
Proceeds from the party will go to the GumTree Museum of Art.
“There’s nothing wrong with getting enjoyment out of giving,” said Scott Reed, a member of 2 Drink Minimum. “You get to meet new people, and it works out for everybody.”
Last year was the first for the Almost New Year’s party, and it was such a success they aim to make even more money this year.
“We’re doing better. We’re by no means in the clear, but it’s essential that we raise money,” said the museum’s director, Liz McIntosh. “We are essential. We’re the only art museum, and we’re trying to enhance the community through the visual arts.”
In addition to hosting exhibits, the museum is tied to the GumTree Festival, and also hosts many workshops throughout the year.
“I hope people want to see us do well,” McIntosh said.
Last year’s party raised about $6,500.
Park Heights will cater the Almost New Year’s party, just like last year.
2 Drink Minimum will perform, and there will be two free specialty drinks, and a cash bar.
There’ll be a first class VIP lounge, too.
“It’s good food, good music, a time to relax and enjoy after the holidays,” she said.
Tickets are available at the museum, Reed’s, Park Heights and Nolan Brothers.
