Surviving Allison

Music and more at Oxford Blues Fest
Learn about and listen to the blues at this year’s Oxford Blues Festival.

Johnny Winter kicks off the festival at 8 p.m. tonight with a gig at the Library.

A blues tourism panel begins at noon Friday, followed by a blues scholars panel at 1:15 p.m. and a blues musicians panel at 2:30 p.m.

Music begins Friday at 4:15 p.m. with the likes of Effie Burt, “Big” George Brock and more.

Reba Russell, Little Poochie and more will perform on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m., and barbecue and catfish will be served.

All panels and concerts on Friday and Saturday will be at the University Museum on the Ole Miss campus.

Johnny Winter tickets are $35, with VIP and meet and greets available.

One-day passes are $10/advance, $15/gate, while a three-day pass is $45. VIP pass for either Friday or Saturday is $75/advance, $90/gate.

Faulkner Conference kicks off this weekend
The Faulkner & Yoknapatawpha Conference, with its “Faulkner & the Black Literatures of the Americas,” begins Sunday and runs through July 25. OxFilm kicks off the festival with a screening of “The Long, Hot Summer” at 6 p.m. Friday at the Powerhouse. It’s free.

“Dr. No,” starring Sean Connery, will hit the screen tonight at 8 p.m.

Agent 007 must solve a colleague’s death in the spy classic from 1963.
