TUPELO
Film fest opens with screenings today
- The 2008 Tupelo Film Festival opens today at the Lyric Theatre in Tupelo.
Screenings will run from 1 to 6:15 p.m. today, and tickets are $5/adults and $2.50/seniors and students.
At 6:30 p.m. today, there will be a free screening of “The Human Experience” at the Lee County Courthouse. FoShOchestra will provide the music, and barbecue dinners will be available for $8.
The festival will resume Friday at 11:30 a.m. with a free film forum at Vanelli’s on Gloster Street.

Ballet dancers will share their talent
- Tupelo Academy of Dance Arts will present its “Dance Happening 2009” at 2 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Tupelo Civic Auditorium.

AMORY
Stars will convene for Haskell event
- The stars will shine in honor of Amory native Sam Haskell’s new book, “Promises I Made My Mother.”
The event will be 7 p.m. Saturday at Amory High School auditorium. It’ll feature Michael Feinstein, Debbie Allen, Doris Roberts, Lucie Arnaz, Sela Ward, Jill Conner Browne, Miss America 2009 Katie Stam, Blake Ewing, former Miss Mississippi Mary Donnelly Haskell, Miss Mississippi 2008 Christine Kozlowski, Mary Lane Haskell and Amory High School’s cast of “The Wiz.”
