Oxford Music Fest Kicks Off
The Oxford Music Festival is Sept. 2-4, featuring the tunes of acts like Young Buffalo, The Reviews, Shannon McNally and Jimbo Mathus. To celebrate the third annual festival, a host of free shows are taking place across Oxford on Wednesday night. The Cooters will play at the Blind Pig, The Cakewalkers will perform at Snackbar, Cuidado el Chupacabra will perform at Irie, Faulkner Alley will play at Parrish’s, Orange Dog will be at Two Stick and Journey to the House of Fire will play at Rooster’s. ‘Indiana Jones’ actor will attend screening
Chris Strompolos, who plays Indiana Jones in “Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation,” will be in town for the movie’s outdoor screening at 8 p.m. today at Fairpark.
“Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation” is a shot-for-shot remake of “Raiders” that was filmed by a collection of Mississippi kids in the 1980s.
The movie’s already made the rounds in Hollywood, and the Village Voice called it “nothing short of slapdash spectacular.” According to Wired Magazine, it is “the greatest fan film yet made.”

‘Dance Like the Stars’ at arena on Saturday
The 2010 “Dance Like the Stars” will be 6 p.m. Saturday at the BancorpSouth Arena.
The event is a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of North Mississippi, and it’ll feature dance performances by local celebrities. Tickets are $50/dinner ticket and $25/general admission.

Students, others invited to ‘Back-to-School Dance’
The VFW in Walnut will host a “Back-to-School Dance” at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Lambert will perform free bluegrass concert
Lisa Lambert and the Pine Ridge Boys will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
