Laurie Triplette, author of “Gimme Some Sugar, Darlin’”, will offer a reading and booksigning event at noon Monday at Reed’s Gum Tree Bookstore in Tupelo.
The Memphis native and featured HottyToddy.com food writer offer tips on how to knock out Christmas gifts and party food at one time.
As an added treat, attendees can sample an assortment of homemade Christmas goodies fresh from Laurie’s kitchen, including curried pecans, almond squares, Cousin Polly’s BBQ sauce and Billy Goats Christmas cookies.
“Gimme Some Sugar, Darlin’” (Tripleheart Press, LLC), is Triplette’s humorous love letter to the South, covering four extended families who, at one time or another, were located in every Southern state. The book is a silver award winner in the 24th annual IBPA Benjamin Franklin Awards (runner up for the gold in the category of regional books).
Through its 787 favorite family recipes and its glossaries, stories, essays and vintage photographs, Triplette’s anthology of Southern eating brings a genteel touch and confidence to the table. The book, which includes “The Secret Lexicon of Southerness” and “One Old Bride’s Guide to Cooking Southern, also offers tips on how to modify recipes, how to stock your kitchen, and how to eat economically, along with housekeeping and culinary advice targeted to precious, home-economics deprived 19-year-olds.
