TUPELO – Anywhere Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band goes, there’s a party.
The Asheville, N.C., five-piece band takes its rowdy live show just about anywhere, and it’s those good times that inspire the band’s upbeat, funky sound.
“Right now we’re stranded in Columbia, S.C.,” said vocalist and keyboardist Mary Frances, “Mama Funk,” in a phone interview with the Daily Journal. “It’s the ups and downs of touring. Two days ago we were in the (Florida) Keys, out on a boat, snorkeling. I think all of that feeds the music.”
On Oct. 22, the Booty Band will release its newest album, “Onward!” The band’s video for the first single, “Trunk Fallin’ Off,” was filmed in the famed Atlanta club, Clermont Lounge.
“The album is experimental. There are things on the album you won’t hear in the show: intros, outros and improv,” Mary Frances said. “There’s funk, rock – it has an electro vibe to it. It’s something we’re all proud of. We put our hearts and souls into each track.”
Fans can expect to hear a few of those new tracks at Booty Band’s live shows, and the band’s shows are what have earned the group a solid fan base.
“It’s about coming in and letting go of whatever you have, and having the time of your life. You get down and shake your booty. There’s no part of your body that isn’t shaking,” she said.
On stage is where the band is at its best.
“What energy we put out, the crowd gives that back to us,” she said. “It’s a circle of energy.”
