Bell-Yates

Mr. and Mrs. James W. Bell of Aberdeen announce the engagement of their daughter, Katherine Elizabeth Bell, to Gerald Colby Yates of Sulphur Springs, son of Roy D. Yates of Jacksonville and Debra A. Swain of Granbury.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Joan Lankford of Aberdeen and the late William N, Lankford of Aberdeen, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bell of Aberdeen.

She attended Itawamba Community College, where she was a member of the tennis team. She was a 2006 graduate of the University of Mississippi, where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She is a student at the University of Memphis.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Al Pierce of Hurst, and Ruth Ellen Yates of Keller and the late Glen R. Yates.

He attended Tarelton State University, where he was a member of the rodeo team. He is a professional bullrider for the PBR.

The couple will exchange vows in a private ceremony on April 11.

Upshaw-Welch

Jessica Sibley Upshaw of Diamondhead, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stephen Upshaw of Greenwood announce the engagement of their daughter, Lauren Rivers Upshaw, to Thomas Stewart Welch, son of Dr. Betsy Ross Welch and John Allen Welch of Brandon.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mrs. John Dale Sibley of Diamondhead and the late John Dale Sibley, and Mr. and Mrs. James Edwin Upshaw of Greenwood.

She graduated with distinction in 2007 from Mississippi State University with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority and Mortar Board honor society. She was presented by the Gulf Coast Debutante Society in 2005. She is employed with the Dow Chemical Company in Houston, Texas, as a process engineer.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Mrs. Jerry Martin Ross of Brandon and the late Dr. Jerry Martin Ross, and Mr. and Mrs. Stewart William Welch of Jackson.

He graduated with distinction in 2007 from Mississippi State University with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering. He was a member of Omega Chi Epsilon and Tau Beta Pi honor societies. He is employed with the Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, Texas, as an integration engineer.

The couple will exchange vows on April 4, 2009, at the Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans, La.

Gooch-McCary

Jeff and Lisa Gooch of Thaxton, and Dewitt and Terry Warren of Hernando announce the engagement of their children, Lindsay Gooch and Brandon McCary.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Betty Ann Gooch Washington and Delaine Washington of Thaxton; the late Dennis Gooch of Thaxton; and Flake and Dorothy Mounce of Ecru.

She is a 2008 honor graduate of North Pontotoc Attendance Center, where she was a member of the Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America, Mu Alpha Theta and the basketball team. She attended Itawamba Community College.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Delores Zachary of Houlka and the late Dwight Zachary, and Dewitt and Jean Warren of Ocala, Fla.

He is a 2005 graduate of Hernando High School, where he was a class officer and a member of the Student Council, Future Career of Community Leaders of America and the Science Club. He is a graduate of Northwest Mississippi Community College with an associate of applied science degree in heating and cooling. He is a private first class in the United States Marine Corps, stationed at Camp Lejeune at Jacksonville, N.C.

The couple will exchange vows at 6:30 p.m. April 4, 2009, at Thaxton United Methodist Church. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Family and friends are invited.
