TUPELO
2010 Azalea Festival will be Friday, Saturday
– The Presley Heights Azalea Festival will be Friday and Saturday at Veterans Park and East Tupelo.
There will be food, live entertainment, arts and crafts, a fishing rodeo, a 5K run, a salute to veterans and more.
The Miss Azalea Bud Pageant will be 6:30 p.m. Friday at Lawhon School auditorium.

School to present balloon festival
– The Up, Up & Away Hot Air Balloon Festival will be Friday and Saturday at Ballard Park in Tupelo.
The event will run 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday and 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. It’ll include balloon rides and races plus music, a 5K run and more. It’s a fundraiser for Tupelo Christian Preparatory School.
Advance tickets are $12/age 13 and up for weekend pass; $7/age 6-12 for weekend pass; $8/age 12 and up for day pass; and $6/age 6-12 for day pass. Advance tickets are available at Busylad, Creative Cakes and Reed’s at The Mall at Barnes Crossing.

White will discuss ‘Paradox of Affluence’
– Neil White, who wrote “In the Sanctuary of Outcasts,” will discuss “The Paradox of Affluence: Choices, Challenges and Consequences.”

State arts commission sets June 7 deadline
– The Mississippi Arts Commission will accept applications for its Building Fund for the Arts program until June 7.
The program provides funding for the renovation or expansion of arts facilities owned by arts-based non-profit groups or local governments.
BFA is funded through bond funds allocated by the Mississippi Legislature. Since 2001, the program has provided funding for 125 different projects, with 95 currently completed and $14.7 million spent.
Organizations interested in applying must submit an Intent to Apply form by May 3, and a full application package by June 7.
