TUPELO – The stars aligned perfectly for three musicians to do some good work.

Pianist Martha F. Monroe, violinist Svetlana Kaltchenko and flautist Nan Lawrence-Holder have recorded an album, “Sounds of Sanctuary,” to benefit Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. The CD will be released next week at a special performance at the Link Centre.

“It’s been a delightful experience for us to work together for such a great cause,” Monroe said.

The “Sounds of Sanctuary” CD has been nearly two years in the making.

“I was trying to think of a way to raise money for Sanctuary Hospice House,” Monroe said. “I called two of the most incredible musicians I know in the area.”

The CD features a mix of sacred music, love songs and tunes from Broadway and the movies. They practiced for a while, going through many song selections.

Songs on the album include “All I Ask of You” from “Phantom of the Opera,” the theme from “The Notebook,” “On Eagle’s Wings” and Bach’s “Air.”

“We started with a stack of music and started playing,” Lawrence-Holder said.

The instrumental tracks are meant to reflect the peaceful and tranquil mood of Sanctuary Hospice.

“We’re trying to create a vignette of beauty and peace,” Monroe said.

The CD was recorded this summer with the help of David Dillard at First United Methodist Church, who donated his time and talent.

The stars continued to align for the project when photographer Darrell Ivy of the Image Place offered to shoot the cover photo, as a thank you to Sanctuary Hospice, where his mother passed away.

Now that the album is complete, the concert is the next major effort.

The trio asked Mary Donnelly Haskell to perform at the concert, and she accepted.

“She was so gracious,” Monroe said. “That made this very exciting, and we’re so happy she’s a part of this.”

The musicians are grateful to those who’ve donated to the album and concert.

“People have been incredible,” Monroe said.

“Sounds of Sanctuary” will be for sale at the concert next week.

All of the money raised by CD sales and concert tickets will go back to Sanctuary Hospice House.

“It’s such a good cause,” Kaltchenko said. “We hope people come to support the cause.”
