Walk into the sanctuary of Saltillo First United Methodist Church, and the first thing you will likely notice are the words “Ye are the light of the world.”
The church’s pastor, the Rev. Tim Green, who is also the pastor of Hebron United Methodist Church, said these words are the church’s main vision. When the congregation moved into this new building from its former downtown location on June 11, 2000, they wanted to make sure these words and their vision came with them.
“It’s a visual reminder of who we are,” said Green, who has been pastor of the church for almost 21 years.
The church has a very active mission and ministry team. Its newest outreach has been working with senior services at Traceway Retirement Community to get Meals on Wheels started in the Saltillo area. The church received a grant, and with the help of volunteers, is currently able to deliver meals to nine different homes three days a week.
Green described worship as traditional and said, “From beginning to end – all aspects of our worship – we try to center it on Christ.”
(Rev. Tim Green)
‘We believe God has a purpose and a plan for everyone, and we believe he has a plan for this congregation.’
